The routine of Health Qigong Wu Qin Xi has
five exercrises,one for each of the tiger,deer,bear,ape,and bird.Each exercise
consists of two movements,so there are ten movements in the routine.In
addition,there is an opening movement at the beginning of the routine to settle
and regulate the breath,and a closing movement at the end to lead the qi back to
the origin.The routine embodies the harmony of body,qi,and mind,with the design
of the movements organically combining physical aesthetics and modern
kinesiology.It is based on TCM theories including zang-fu(viscera and
bowels),channels and collaterals,and combines the characteristics of the five
animals.Each of the five exercises of the routine has a specific function of its
own,as well as a synergistic fitness effect.
Wu Qin Xi displays the spirit of the five
animals by imitation of their movements:
the bravery and fierceness of the tiger,the
quietness and elegance of the deer,the steadiness of the bear,the cleverness of
the ape,and the agility of the bird.Thus,it incorporates both mind and
qi,uniting the internal and external.The movements are symmetrical,reliable and
safe to practice,theroutine is easy to learn,and it promotes the balanced
development of health.Practitioners may practice in the range and intensity of
motion which suits them indivially.And ,as with any other routine,the more
familiar one becomes with the movements the more detailed the practice of the
three regulations becomes.
